Minority populations are especially at risk. In the United States today, one in five African-Americans is living without health insurance and African-Americans are more likely to be uninsured than non-Hispanic Whites. Without a medical home, many uninsured patients ultimately forgo preventive health care that is central to maintaining good health and managing disease.

Medicine, of course, can be an important part of medical treatment. Unfortunately, uninsured and underinsured patients may not be aware of the many resources available to help them get access to the medicines they need. Many pharmaceutical companies have programs that aim to help patients get access to needed medicines. Pfizer has a program called Pfizer Helpful Answers®, a family of patient assistance programs for the uninsured and underinsured who need help getting Pfizer medicines. These programs provide Pfizer medicines for free or at a savings to patients who qualify. Some programs also offer reimbursement support services for people with insurance.

The National Coalition of Pastor’s Spouses is pleased to be partnering with Pfizer to spread the word about Pfizer Helpful Answers. It is our job to empower our congregations by educating them about existing health resources. Together with Pfizer, we hope to further our mutual goal of educating minority communities about available help.

Therefore, Pfizer Helpful Answers materials are now available for download on the NCPS Website. These simple documents can easily be printed out and distributed at your churches. Now is the time to make use of existing resources that can improve the health of the communities we serve.
