The National Coalition of Pastors’ Spouses recognizes that while modern conveniences are making our lives more simple, these same conveniences are contributing to increased health risks and disease in our bodies.

Conveniences such as taking the elevator instead of the stairs; driving the car two blocks instead of walking or bicycling; using the remote control instead of getting up changing the television channels are increasing our risks of heart attacks, diabetes, and possibly stroke.
Please take a few minutes to answer the following “true or false” questions to increase your knowledge on walking and heart disease.

ANSWERS TO THE CHECK YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HEART DISEASE I.Q. QUIZ:
1. True. Heart disease is almost twice as likely to develop in inactive people. Regular physical activity (even mild to moderate exercise) can reduce this risk.

2. False. Lots of Americans are very busy doing “busy work”, but not very active. Get 30 minutes of low to moderate levels of physical activity daily, such as walking, yardwork, dancing, housework, and walking up stairs.

3. False. We tend to become less active with age, but physical activity is still important. Regular physical activity in older persons increases their capacity to do everyday activities. Find a program that fits your fitness level.
